From the factory our 1986 36th Anniversary Karmodus had an Aluminum rear deck panel that covered the mufflers and prop shaft area. The motor cover hinges attached just ahead of it to a separate much more narrow aluminum panel (about 8" wide) that was screwed directly into the hull stringers.
